(Almost) Four tents in 24 hours!

An update on the Aotearoa 2 Gaza Tent drive

Hika mā, in just under 24 hours we've raised a total of $5,667! Enough for Asma's family to purchase a tent, plus almost three more tents for three additional families.

I've never seen an excel spreadsheet from Stripe this long before - 165 people, loads donating $10-$20, and a few parting with significantly more. I'm.... blown away. THANK YOU. Thank you.

I've been asked to keep the link open while the campaign continues (there are 40 families in need of shelter) so if you didn't already get the chance, here is the link again. All of the donations will be transferred to the Aotearoa 4 Gaza fund as soon as they land in my account from Stripe - hopefully no later than Friday the money will be on its way to Asma.

Aotearoa 4 Gaza will match the additional funds raised here to another three of their sponsored families - I'll keep you updated as the info comes through to me, and I will also let you know when I make another transfer (in the event we raise another $1500??!).

In case you want a bit more info about the fund, here it is:

The Aotearoa 4 Gaza mutual aid fund was set up last year to directly support families in Gaza. We are a grassroots collective based in Aotearoa standing in unwavering solidarity with Palestinian families in Gaza. Through consistent, direct mutual aid, we send $100 at a time (usually once a week) to families who are living through unimaginable hardship under Israel's occupation and genocide. These contributions go straight to verified recipients, without intermediaries, ensuring urgent support reaches those who need it most. The fund is fully volunteer run and is led by Emily Writes. Nobody takes a cut. Every cent goes to our families. Every donation is a lifeline, and a stand against violence and genocide. We invite you to contribute, to share, and to stand with us in this act of collective care and resistance.

Passing along this comment from my friend Elrond:

I am in regular contact with people in Gaza and can reassure everyone the money (less extortionate fees & exchange rates) does get to the families through direct donation or mutual aid funds. And they can use it. There is still an electronic economy in Gaza despite everything.

If you'd like to sign up to raise funds (you can opt for a lesser amount that $1500) you can still do that too, here.

Let me know if you have any pātai, arohanui, Nadine.
